Self-Deprecation
As followers of Christ, we are to seek his ways. We are to try the best we can to show others what it is to act Christ-like. Whether or not they believe we are "powered" by God's grace, we can try to leave a mark on their lives. They may not respond now or ever, but we tried with all we had to help them and lead them in the right direction. Didn't we?
Didn't we speak up against their evil ways? Didn't we help them when they were conflicted? Didn't we give them advice? Didn't we be a friend when all their friends had gone no matter what others thought? Didn't we help the least of these? (Matthew 25:40)
Many times we take the days we have with others for granted. And many times we are hit with the realization that we may not be doing enough. Even though these thoughts cloud our judgement of how effective we have been in others' lives, we have to keep pushing through and realize we won't see immediate effects. Just like medication, the healing Jesus provides takes time to come into effect.
We all hear how love takes time right? Well that is what is taking place in the souls of those we come in contact with. We tend to believe that we are at fault if their hearts aren't subject to God's truth. We try to convince ourselves that we are not worthy to be called children of God when others ridicule us for our beliefs and hate us for calling them out on their wrongs (with love). God works in His time, not ours. We seem to want the way we speak, act and the things we do to have an immediate effect. Maybe God stores up the result for the strengthening of their heart. It also helps us to trust God and have faith in his timing.
Patience is never easy when we live in this fast-paced society. All we do is in the here and now. There is no waiting for transactions or others to give in. While it is a struggle to be patient, the waiting God requires will always bring us closer to understanding his truth. No matter what the devil tries to tell us, we know god is the One who loves us and wants our lives to reflect Jesus. We have to live through all our tribulations with the hope that God has the seeds to produce greener grass on the other side. He has the best path for us to trod, and he will fulfill his promises.
